Bisalpur Dam Releases Water for First Time Since Construction

Date: July 24, 2025

For the first time since its inception, Rajasthan’s Bisalpur Dam began releasing excess water on 24 July 2025. With inflows outpacing capacity, authorities opened eight gates, discharging approximately 79 TMC—double its storage capacity of around 38 TMC. At peak, the flow reached 132,220 cusecs. Safety measures like barricading river routes along Banas River were put in place to prevent mishaps. Engineer Prahlad Rai Khoiwal noted this year’s monsoon filled the dam fully, including releasing water to manage overflow.
